According to reports, former Russian politicians and anti-Russia activists have been discussing options to remove Russian President Vladimir Putin from power during meetings in Poland, these options include “physically eliminating” the Kremlin leader.
Reports from Euractiv suggest that the foes of Vladimir Putin are meditating on various regime change scenarios, among them is taking up arms and killing the Russian President, unleashing a civil war in Russia.
Viacheslav Maltsev, an opposition activist, said that the primary goal is to “eliminate Putin.”
After being labelled an extremist by the state, Viacheslav Maltsev fled Russia in 2017. He said a civil war in Russia wouldn’t be “as bloody as” the Ukraine war.
Another former Russian politician said that “terrorist methods” are required to fight against terrorists.
A former member of Russia’s State Duma named Ilya Ponomarev is said to have arranged the weekend meeting outside the Polish capital of Warsaw in the city of Jablonna. According to reports from Gazeta Wyborcza, Ponomarev claimed to have organized an underground resistance movement over the past few months.
Speaking against a bloody coup, some participants of the meeting proposed that the 70-year-old Putin be handed over to the international courts to face war charges after being seized alive.
The gathering in Poland is seen as a chorus of the growing discontent within Russia that’s becoming louder as former allies, local politicians in St. Petersburg and Moscow, and army conscripts of Putin are publicly denouncing the ongoing Ukraine war despite facing the risk of jail time and hefty fines.
