A royal expert has claimed Prince William isn’t ready to make amends with his brother because of the Duke of Sussex’s choice to walk away from royal life which catapulted his wife Kate and their young children into “centre stage sooner than they expected”.
Katie Nicholl, the author of The New Royal: Queen Elizabeth’s Legacy and the Future of the Crown, claims Prince Harry’s departure had a “huge impact” on his niece and nephews, Prince Louis, Princess Charlotte and Prince George, as it plunged them directly into the spotlight “far sooner than otherwise would have been”.
“A lot of it was how he chose to do that. And what William saw as a great disrespect to the institution and to his family, to his grandmother,” Ms Nicholl told Us Weekly.
“It was very difficult for William, and I think that’s partly why this rift hasn’t been resolved, because, you know, William can’t completely forgive Harry for what he’s done.”
Ms Nicholl said King Charles III would be eager for the pair to heal their rift so the tension between them doesn’t hang over his reign.
But while their grandmother’s funeral last month offered the brothers a chance to make amends, the royal author claims any hint of reconciliation is still some way off.
“I think William had always expected that he would have the support of his brother. And I think it wasn’t just that Harry had chosen to leave and to stand down,” she said.
The royal biographer also claims Queen Elizabeth II had given up on bringing the feuding siblings together as she was “exhausted by it all”.
Just days after the Queen’s death, Prince William, Prince Harry and their partners came together to meet grieving members of the public outside Windsor Castle.
The brothers, Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle spent time looking at the floral tribute, gifts, and letters from Brits and tourists that were laid against the property’s gates in the surprise appearance.
All four then proceeded to wander over to well-wishers young and old lining either side of the driveway in hopes of speaking or getting a glimpse of the two couples.
