There are spreading fears that Volodymr Zelensky (President of Ukraine) could be assassinated in the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war since he is the number one target of assassination.
What would be the responses of the Ukrainians? How would the West react to the news? Then what would become the fate of the ongoing war? These are all questions rumbling in the minds of concerned people.
Should Volodymr Zelensky be assassinated, he would be a symbol of Ukrainian independence and at the same time become Russian tyranny for hundreds of years (a symbol of Russian aggression).
In a total different way of what would happen in Russia if Vladimir Putin is the one assassinated, Zelensky’s death will not change the situation in Ukraine drastically, reason is down to the fact that Ukraine is not a dictatorship and has democratic mechanisms in place.
An interim president will almost be appointed immediately because of their type of government, but Zelensky’s death will mean the determination of Ukrainians will grow stronger to see the war through. Though assassinating Zelensky would assure a hostile neighbor on Russia’s border for the next thousand years.
The Ukraine government has a contingency plan in place if President Volodymyr Zelensky is killed during the Russian invasion, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken has confirmed during an interview with CBS News’ Face the Nation on Sunday.
The Ukrainians have plans in place — that I’m not going to talk about or get into any details on — to make sure that there is what we would call “continuity of government” one way or another. And let me leave it at that,’ Blinken said when he was asked if the United States was working on an interim plan to support a Ukrainian government without Zelensky.
