Duchess of Cambridge is “adored” by Americans as they “gravitated” towards her, claimed a royal expert while speaking on GB news on Tuesday. Celia Walden was speaking to Dan Wootton about the response to the royal mother of three in the States.
In one of her columns for The Telegraph, Ms Walden claimed that the Sussexes have seemed to “lost their grip” on the US.
Mr Wootton asked: “I think this is the case of diminishing return for Meghan because every week now we are getting private details served on a platter and actually it just made her like any other Hollywood A-list rather than a royal who has an air and mystique around them…”
Ms Walden explained how she believes that Meghan has “discounted” herself from being a part of the Royal Family.
She said: “She has done inadvertently is that she has discounted herself from every area she sorts of wanted to be in.
“So, you can’t be an A-list and air dirty laundry. If you look at our A-listers or America’s A-listers, you don’t hear about Beyoncé’s marriage or any family issues. You don’t have George or Amal talking about what’s going on in their private life. She discounted herself from being an A-lister the second she started doing that and she has obviously discounted herself from being a part of the Royal Family.
“They are obviously trying to start a whole new side of them with Netflix tapes and Archetypes podcasts but if they are not delivering what people want, then fundamentally the pair becomes useless.”
The first episode of Meghan Markle’s podcast Archetypes since the death of Queen Elizabeth is out now.
The new episode, released on October 4 on Spotify, stars stand-up comedian Margaret Cho and journalist Lisa Ling.
They discussed the stereotype of the “Dragon Lady” image of Asian women.
Mr. Wootton continued and asked: “Do you think Americans have started embracing Kate again? They did go through a moment where Meghan was a big star but do you think that has gravitated towards Kate again? Because she is the epitome of royalty and that is the reason why Americans have always gravitated the Royal Family because they are not celebrities.”
Ms Walden agreed and replied: “The thing they have loved about us and have always loved is sort of quietness and old-fashionedness of our Royal Family.
“People adore Kate and they think she is an epitome of a Princess because she is very dignified. She has never put a foot wrong. They think she is absolutely wonderful and it is funny that Meghan hasn’t taken over because you would think that they would embrace one of their own but I think the latest poll said that Kate was twice as popular as Meghan.”
