This is an inspiring story of love among humans, regardless of differences in race or culture.
When true love brings two beautiful people together, obstacles in their path would only bring them even closer as they lovingly look out for each other, and strengthening their ties.
Mary’s dad told her, “If you marry that man you will never set foot in this house again.” In her journey of love, she stumbled on the fact that most people has the mind of his father.
The formative years of their marriage were hell– no one would speak to them, they couldn’t find anywhere to live because no one would rent house to a black man, they had no money. But they didn’t give up, even though they gave up on some friendships and relations.
Mary would soon get teaching jobs, and ended up as a deputy head teacher in one of those jobs. Her husband –Jake worked in a factory and got a job at the post office.
Mary would always tell people, “before I invite you to my home, please know that my husband is black.” Some would never talk to her again when she said this.
Mary and Jake are now in their seventy years and counting in marriage and they are still very much in love.
Often times, people need to be reminded always that we can’t help who we fall in love with. The love story of Mary and Jake is an inspiring love story and a good representation of lovers who stuck to their convictions – against all odds.
No one would dare to imagine the hardships they have been through in their journey of love.
