Meghan Markle has said she is “making a choice” to be “grounded” because “things will be said no matter” how she behaves on the latest episode of her podcast.
The Duchess of Sussex, 41, was joined by comedians Issa Rae and Ziwe in her new episode of Archetypes released today and titled ‘Upending The Angry Black Women Myth’.
During the episode, the mother of two discussed how Ketanji Brown Jackson was sworn into the Supreme Court bench and how the judge had shown “restraint” during hearings while being questioned by Republican senators.
After her guest Issa praised her for “doing a great job” after the others found “attacks,” Meghan said: “There’s a pressure to not just do that for herself, but to do that for all of us.
“That’s the same way, you say you carry yourself and what I think… You make a choice.
“You choose to be as grounded as possible in what we share, because of all the things that will be said anyway.”
Elsewhere in the episode, Meghan said, “Telling people what you need doesn’t make you demanding,” while claiming black women are called “angry” in her latest Archetypes podcast on Spotify.
Discussing her behavior in work situations, the Duchess said she often finds herself “crouching and tiptoeing in a room” because of the feeling that she can’t say what she wants without being viewed negatively.
“What I find most embarrassing is when you say a sentence and the intonation goes up — like it’s a question. And you say, “Oh my god, stop, stop, like whispering and tiptoeing around it,” she says on today’s episode.
‘Tell me what you need. You can set a limit. You can be clear, don’t make yourself demanding. It doesn’t make you difficult, it makes you clear.’
Meghan added that she felt that “a rising tide lifts all ships” and that “we will all succeed in making sure it gets really great.”
