Ukraine and Russia’s militaries are David and Goliath respectively – both on paper and on field. How Ukraine are still very much alive in the war has been somewhat more of a miracle.
Below is how the two country’s military capabilities stack up.
Defense Spending
“The Military Balance” report by the International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS), published on February, 2022 that Ukraine spent $4.7 billion in 2021, and Russia spent $45.8 billion on their respective military.
Men power.
In the first month of Russia invasion of Ukraine, Yohann Michel, a research analyst who worked on the IISS report, said Russia had an estimated 200,000 personnel in and around Ukraine.”That’s including around 60 battle groups. The situation is evolving rapidly and that number could change, but it’s very large, and that’s important. It’s one of the largest in eastern Europe that we’ve seen in years — in my lifetime,” Michel said.
“Ukrainian numbers are more difficult because everything they have is now mobilized and they have called in reservists.”
Weaponry and vehicle.
Russia boasts of having more than Ukraine in everything from attack aircraft to armored vehicles and, surface-to-air missiles.Russia has more than 15,857 armored fighting vehicles compared to Ukraine’s 3,309. 1,391 aircrafts to Ukraine’s 128, and 821 helicopters to Ukraine’s 55, if you include Navy aircraft.And where Russia has 49 submarines, Ukraine has none, according to IISS.
Combat will
This is where Ukrainian troop stands out and tall, they enjoy predominance on Russia militant.This is the miracle that has kept them thus far in the war. The doggedness, willingness has made them to lay a hold on the war, to some extent.
