The new owner of twitter, Elon Musk has said he will be reversing the lifelong ban on Donald Trump twitter account. This recent event is in line with the finalization of his purchase of twitter.
According to an interview at the Financial Times Future of the Car summit, Elon said ” I do think it was not correct to ban Donald Trump . I think it was a mistake”.
We al remember that Donald Trump was permanently banned from twitter on January 2021 after he incited violence amongst his supporters when they stormed the US Capitol building in thousands. According to Elon, the banning activity caused a great part of the country to be alienated, and did not even silence the former US president.
However, Musk seems to be accepting the claim of the former president as he says he is no longer interested in returning to twitter, and instead, would rather stick with his own social media app, Truth social.
Although Musk did not blame Trump directly for the attack on the Capitol, he highlighted the influence of Donald on the act, and also said that twitter bans ” fundamentally undermine trust in Twitter as a town square where everyone can voice their opinion”.
On that note, when asked if he will be reversing the ban, he stated that he would reverse the lifetime ban on the former president as he referred to it as a morally bad decision.
