Prince Harry’s highly
anticipated memoir will now not be published until next year due to the royal
mourning period following the Queen’s death, it has been reported.
The tell-all book has cast a
long shadow over the Royal Family and was initially slated for
release in ‘late 2022’, with expectations it would come out in time for
Christmas.
But the death of Queen
Elizabeth II last week has reportedly thrown the plans into even more
uncertainty.
King Charles announced the
Royal Family will remain in mourning until seven days after Her Majesty’s
funeral on Monday, September 19.
According to protocol,
official duties are then reintroduced gradually and where appropriate, with
personal projects placed on the back burner.
A source close to the Duke and
Duchess of Sussex told The Telegraph the book will no longer be
released as planned as the couple observes the mourning period.
It is likely to be pushed back
to next year, the newspaper reports.
The manuscript is understood
to be finished and approved by lawyers.
But this delay could give the
duke time to update it with new chapters about his grandmother’s death and the
aftermath which has seen the couple reunited with his family in their
grief.
Neither the King nor the
Prince of Wales are thought to have had any sight of the book’s contents.
Harry announced the publishing
deal last summer, promising the book would be an ‘accurate and wholly truthful
account of his life.
The duke, who also pledged to
donate the proceeds to charity, said the memoir will be written ‘not as the
prince I was born but as the man, I have become’.
