Prince William and Prince
Harry had rows with King Charles in the wake of his marriage
to Queen Consort Camilla that were “hardly respectful”, a
new book has claimed.
Charles and Camilla tied the
knot in 2005 – nine years after the King divorced his first wife and William
and Harry’s mother Princess Diana, and eight years after her death.
Several years before the wedding, William and Harry were formally introduced to
Camilla and are said to have gotten on well. They even invited their then
stepmother-to-be to a 50th birthday party they threw for Charles and in 2005,
Harry said he and William loved Camilla “to bits”.
However, in a new biography of
Camilla by royal expert Angela Levin, after the wedding, William and Harry both
had rows with their father.
In the book, Camilla: From
Outcast to Queen Consort, which has been serialized in The Telegraph, she
writes: “But after the wedding, it became clear that his sons weren’t as
keen on their stepmother as it appeared but were just being polite before and
at the wedding.
“Instead, both William
and Harry had arguments with their father that I’ve been told were ‘hardly
respectful’.
“It is always difficult
to take on the role of stepmother and William and Harry presented the
then-Duchess of Cornwall with an almost impossible challenge.”
Today, William is said to have
a “grown-up rapport” with Camilla while Harry’s bond with her is
thought to remain rocky.
There have been reports that
Harry “can’t stand” Camilla and she could come in for criticism in
his upcoming memoir, which is said to be due out later this year.
