It’s always reassuring to be
reminded that the royal family are human too, with some of the flaws and
tribulations the rest of us face. One such moment came at Wimbledon on Tuesday,
July 5, 2022, when Prince William appeared to swear in frustration.
The 40-year-old royal attended
a match to watch British No1, Cameron Norrie. In the quarter-final yesterday
evening, Norrie played Belgian David Goffin.
In one crucial moment, Norrie,
26, lost a point to Goffin. He walked away, clearly frustrated after messing up
his service game and the BBC coverage showed the Duke’s reaction.
William shook his head before
appearing to mutter an expletive while straightening his tie. In a clip shared
on Twitter, he seems to say: “No, no, no, f***.”
We’ve all been there. Social
media users seemed to see the funny side, with one person tweeting: “Can’t
be unseen! So glad he’s human.” Another wrote: “Good to see some
feelings.”
Others pointed out he could
have been saying: “for goodness sake” as the camera was only on the
Prince momentarily – any lip-readers around? Most agreed he had likely sworn in
frustration.
Norrie proceeded to eventually
beat his opponent, met by cheers from the Court One crowd, including both the
Duke and Duchess of Cambridge. The tennis star will now face Novak Djokovic in
the semi-final.
He was asked if he could beat
the former world No1. Norrie replied: “For sure. I’m looking forward to
taking it to him and seeing the level he brings.” However, he also
acknowledged that he would have to step up his game for Djokovic, who is hoping
for a 21st Grand Slam win.
He added: “I’m going to have
to improve a lot of things. I don’t think I’m going to have the chance to lose
focus like I did against David. I think I was a little bit fortunate.”
