Meghan Markle might not
wear sleeves, carry clutches, or even have British citizenship yet, but
her appearance today at the Commonwealth Youth Forum sent a clear signal that the
royal family approves of Prince Harry’s fiancée 110%.

As part of the Commonwealth
Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM), Wednesday’s forum qualifies as
extremely high-profile. Meghan’s attendance ahead of her marriage into the
family struck experts as “highly unusual.”
“Clearly the feeling is
that she is equipped and ready for the job even before the ring is on her finger,”
a former courtier told Vanity Fair. “This is quite unusual. CHOGM is
a very important official meeting. It’s quite something for Meghan to be
involved.”
Representatives and leaders
from all 53 Commonwealth countries attend the biennial summit addressing
current events with the aim of creating a shared policy. Past CHOGMs have
tackled contentious issues like apartheid, military coups, and electoral fraud,
so this is no fluffy photo-op.
