The research, carried out by
YouGov on 1,692 adults earlier this month, asked whether they held a positive
or negative opinion of the Duke and Duchess. The results, published today,
showed Harry’s favorability score had dropped to -26, which means just 32
percent of people polled see him in a positive light, compared to 58 percent
who think of him negatively.
In a similar poll carried out
between March 16 and 17, Harry had scored -25.
Likewise, Meghan Markle’s net favorability has also dropped, from -39 to -42 in
the latest survey, with only 23 percent of the public hold a positive outlook
on the Duchess of Sussex while nearly two in three (63 percent) have a negative
view.
The Sussexes remain positively
seen among the young, but by a narrower margin, the YouGov poll showed.
Some 42 percent of those aged
18 to 24 see Harry positively, and 33 percent see him negatively – a net score
of +9.
Meanwhile, the research also
shows both Prince Charles and Prince William will have a tough job garnering
the same level of approval as the Queen.
The study found 84 percent of
Britons think the Queen has done a good job in her 70 years on the throne,
including six in 10 who say she has done a ‘very good job’.
YouGov tracking data shows
that the public are split 34 percent to 37 percent on whether Prince Charles
should succeed as king after Queen Elizabeth, or whether the crown should pass
down in favour of the more popular Prince William.
The British public tend to
think both Princes will make good Kings should they ascend to the throne, but there
is significantly more confidence in William than Charles.
Some 77 percent of people
think the Duke of Cambridge will do a good job as King, compared to just 57
percent for his father.
