Famous filmmaker Edgard
Leroy has died in a car crash along the Lagos-Ibadan expressway barely a
month after winning his first Africa Magic Viewer’s Choice Award.
The Cameroonian-born filmmaker was on his way to Ibadan, Oyo State for a movie shoot when the
unfortunate incident happened.
His friend and partner, David
Akande, said he was involved in the auto crash that occurred on Saturday,
June 11, 2022, at the Shagamu end of the Lagos-Ibadan expressway.
The rising filmmaker won the Best Indigenous Movie (Yoruba) award for his first feature film,
Alaise, on May 14, 2022, at the seventh AMVCAs.
Born Edgard Le Roy Nouke
Ngedemon on July 13, 1995, in Cameroon, the filmmaker died a few weeks before
his 27th birthday.
He’s the first Cameroonian and
filmmaker to win the AMVCAs and for his first feature film in a totally foreign
language.
