The prompt intervention of
Police operatives from Olasan Division, Mushin, has saved a 53 years old woman
from being lynched by an angry mob over baby theft in Lagos.
A statement by the spokesman
of Lagos State Police Command Benjamin Hundeyin on Twitter disclosed
that the woman was stripped naked, stoned and almost lynched.
Benjamin Hundeyin said the mob
had alleged that the 53-year-old woman touched a baby and the baby disappeared.
The police spokesman said the
mob were dispersed with teargas and the woman was recused.
According to Hundeyin, the
allegation against the woman has not been proven and no parents or guardian has
complained of a missing baby in the locality.
He said: “We really need to
join hands to stop jungle justice. At 18:10 hours today, people stripped naked
a 53-year-old woman (names withheld), started stoning her and were on the path
of lynching her. This happened at Alasalatu, Mushin.”
“The allegation was that she
touched a baby and the baby disappeared. Police got there on time to rescue
her. Lynch mob was dispersed with teargas.
“The allegation has not been proven.
No parent/guardian has come forward yet to complain of a missing baby in that
locality today. She’s currently at the station. Her husband has
been contacted.
“The investigation is ongoing.
Jungle justice is not the way to go. Say NO to jungle justice.”
Nigeria is truly going down a rapid one-way spiral into Jahannam/Hell/Gehenna.
I feel terrible for the innocent people who must live in that horrific culture, but hope they can find ways to escape.
The only response to Jungle/Mob justice is for heavy handed policing, ideally Nationally managed to minimise any corruption allowing leniency. Every member of that mob should be arrested and charged and locked away, then keep repeating until these medieval mobs get the message that it's unacceptable. You can see in the USA the KKK ruled the backward states for a century, the local police were powerless and/or in many cases part of the problem.
It's pathetic but we should continue to educate our communities about nefarious acts. Some communities in mother Africa are hunting and killing by burning innocent senior citizens, accused of witch craft acts. Kangaroo courts as they are christened should stop as it may sound barbaric. We pray for our Lord to intervene as most of our unemployed siblings in Africa are frustrated. Please don't act as Lucifer's advocates.
