The anger stems from Adele has been a
poster child for overweight people who didn’t rely on their body image, but
instead, their talent to make it in show biz. This in itself is admirable.
The problem came when she decided she wanted
to be healthy, not get diabetes, heart disease, cancer, or a host of other
conditions related to obesity.
But instead of being applauded for what must
have taken hard work and commitment to achieve her goal, she’s being jeered as
a sell-out. In some sort of horrible, misguided attempt at skinny-shaming,
Adele is being taken to task for abandoning her “beautiful” yet extremely unhealthy
former self in favor of a new, healthier body and lifestyle.
Let’s be clear; this is 21st-century insanity.
It’s the insecure, political-correctness police gone mad at losing a role model that allowed them to feel good about their own obesity. And it’s leading to
irrational arguments against someone who took a life-changing, positive step to
stop eating themselves to death and live a better, healthier life.
But those who have not chosen to make the
trip with her… consider it shameful and unforgivable for abandoning them. Only
in the ultra-correct, misguided 21st century can someone be taken to task for
making positive changes in their personal life.
Instead of
jeering Adele, let’s shame the people who twist and distort reality in order to
protect and defend their own insecurities. What people are doing to Adele is
unconscionable.
