How Dangerous Is Gender Re-Assignment Surgery?

It is major surgery, under general
anesthesia, so it has some inherent risks. But as surgeries go, it is
relatively safe and routine, as others have pointed out.

I will add
one additional factor: because it is elective surgery, rather than emergency
surgery, the surgeons can be very selective about who they accept. Most will
reject patients who are poor risks. For example, typically patients must not be
overweight, must have stopped smoking for at least a year, and must be in good
health. That greatly reduces the chances of complications.
