I couldn’t think of one, but a friend I met recently while discussing celebrities mentioned something about the above-named actress.
He said that actress Ana de Armas plays Marilyn Monroe in
Netflix’s Blonde and the film could make history with its indicative rating of
NC-17.
NC-17 is the strictest of the ratings,
stating that only adults can watch the film. Blonde is not the only one on
Netflix to have this rating, but being a historical figure and being in
English, this is new.
Films such as 365 DNI (365 Days) have
previously obtained this classification, but it is a licensed work, just like
Nymphomaniac, which has already been in the catalog.
In the case of Blonde, if it actually
receives the NC-17 seal, this would be something quite significant for Netflix,
which would prove that films like these are capable of sustaining themselves on
streaming.
It is worth noting that, in cinemas, such a
rating kills the box office of the films, since it considerably restricts the
audience. Many adults don’t like such explicit films either.
The Ana de Armas movie hasn’t received an
official rating yet, but director Andrew Dominik seems certain that it will be
for adults.
The director
said: “It’s a demanding film. If the public doesn’t like it, that’s the
public’s problem. You are not running for public office. It’s an NC-17 movie
about Marilyn Monroe, that’s kind of what you want, right? I want to go see the
NC-17 version of the Marilyn Monroe story.”
