In 2018, George Clooney was riding his bike
in Sardinia, Italy, at 75 mph when suddenly a car turned in front of him, and
the collision caused him to fly over the handlebars.
Last year, in an interview with GQ, he
revealed details of the accident, what he was thinking throughout the situation
and how he landed after he was sent flying.
He said: “He literally turned directly in
front of me. I launched. I go head over heels. But I landed on my hands and
knees. If you did it 100 times, maybe once you land on your hands and knees,
and any other version you land, you’re toast. It knocked me out of my shoes.
When I hit the ground, my mouth — I thought all my teeth were broken out. But
it was glass from the windshield. My kids were like a year old, and mostly it
was just the thought that this was it and that I wasn’t gonna see them again.”
While on the floor he started screaming in
pain and he thought that it was the end for him. He recently told Sunday
Times: “I was waiting for my switch to turn off.”
As he was laying on the floor, witnesses
surrounded him and instead of helping him or checking if he was okay, they
started filming him.
He said: “If you’re in the public eye, what
you realize when you’re on the ground thinking it’s the last minute of your
life is that, for some people, it’s just going to be entertainment for their
Facebook page. I’m a pretty positive guy, but that told me – clearly – that you
really are here just for their entertainment. You want to take everyone and
shake them. People are living their lives this way and I fight against it. If
my kids do something cute, I want to take a picture, but I have to say, ‘Be in
the moment – you don’t have to record everything.’”
