Marriage is just a piece of paper, isn’t it? What do you think? For some
couples, tying the knot isn’t the key to a long, healthy relationship. Some
long-term couples even claim that if they had gotten married, they’d be
divorced already.
For Instance, Ricky Gervais
has been in a relationship with his girlfriend Jane Fallon since 1982. In those 39 years they not only never got
married, but they also never had children (check the photo above).
In 2011, Ricky told The Telegraph why they never got married:
“We are married in everything but the ceremony. We share everything and
everything is in both names. We’ve lived together for 29 years-how are we not
married except in the eyes of God? It’s just
irrelevant. Our ‘marriage’ has lasted longer than most marriages.”
He told the Times: “There’s no point
in us having an actual ceremony before the eyes of God because there is no God.”
In 2016, on her part, Jane told The
Guardian why they never had any children: “My dreams were all about
becoming a writer, a vet, or a gymnast, not having a family. As I got older it
became something I actively didn’t want to do. I didn’t want to have children
because doing so just didn’t feel like me. Being a mother wasn’t who I was
meant to be.”
Now they are both successful in their
respective fields and from the looks of it, even after 39 years, they remain as
inseparable as ever:
Another is: Sarah Paulson and Holland Taylor.
Paulson and Taylor They have been together for six years. During an interview with the New York Times, the
“Ratched” star shared that, since she’s been in relationships with
both men and women, she chooses not to label her sexuality.
She
said: “If my life choices had to be predicated based on what was expected
of me from a community on either side, that’s going to make me feel really
straitjacketed, and I don’t want to feel that. What I can say absolutely is
that I am in love, and that person happens to be Holland Taylor.”
Yet is Shakira.
Shakira says her relationship of 10 years with Gerard
Piqué is well-established — they don’t need marriage to prove it. They first sparked relationship rumors in
early 2011. They have two sons together, Milan and Sasha, born in 2013 and 2015
respectively.
When asked by Glamour back in 2014 if they
had any plans to marry, the singer explained: “We already have what’s
essential, you know? We have a union, a love for each other, and [babies]. I
think that those aspects of our relationship are already established, and
marriage is not going to change them.”
