For me, I have… mixed feelings,
about Angelina Jolie. Love her as an actress. Find her quite
capable as a director. As a wife, she seems to have done well, as a mother
great, while she was an ex-wife from hell by all accounts. Above all I admire
her dedication to human rights.
Angelina Jolie didn’t give two shits about
social media. Twitter, Instagram, Facebook? She had better things to do. When
she finally did make an Instagram account, it wasn’t to share
pictures of herself with famous people. It wasn’t to brown-nose other
celebrities, or to show off her fancy food or nice trips…
No, the first-ever thing she uploaded was a
letter from an Afghan girl who was terrified when the Taliban took over Kabul.
Who was afraid for her life, her safety, her freedom, who feared being forced
to marry some old man and pump out ten kids and never see the light of day if
not for the presence of a male resident.
That’s what she used her voice for, her fame. She lends a voice to the
voiceless. Hell half of her kids are adopted from awful situations, too. I
don’t like how Angelina Jolie treated Brad Pitt. Or how she wrecked another
woman’s marriage to get him. But I cannot help but love the
work she does and the way she uses her fame.
In all people, there is good and bad. I am not
a psychologist; these are only my opinions based on publicly accessible
information.
Angelina has
great qualities including:
1) Humanitarianism, and not for publicity but
for really caring about and wanting to improve the human condition. Ex: UN
ambassador, Instagram account, adoption of her children, movie about son’s
home-country, Cambodia. 2) Publicity of women’s health issues. Her open letters
on breast cancer, historectomy and breast removal and reconstruction is pretty
big. There is still a segment of the female population who hides, is ashamed
of, or ignores health issues. Her shining a light on this as a celebrity also
helped fund additional female disease based research, which is chronically
lagging male-based research (ex: how much funding has been put into viagra/male
impotence vs. Uterine cancer). 3) Motherhood. She is an awesome mom & momma
bear. Cares about her kids and what they want as far as self-expression. Her
kids all seem to adore her, just as she and her brother adored their mom. I
imagine she modeled her parenting style off of her mom Marcheline Bertrand.
Now, for her
not so great qualities:
1) She does not do well with men. She is
estranged from her father, has 3 failed marriages, and is now also estranged
from her brother whom she was famously close with (Google Oscar’s kiss). 2) She
has a history of going for committed men and is also vindictive when it doesn’t
work out. Both Billy Bob Thorton and Brad Pitt were in relationships when she
came along. As far as her behavior toward Brad post-split: she is going for the
jugular on that one. If you look up her court filings, she effectively wants
him cut out of the children’s lives completely. IMHO, unless you are an abusive
parent (which LAPD and FBI have both investigated and found him not to be) it
is never in the child’s best interest to not have a relationship with both
parents. I imagine her own childhood, and father dynamics are influencing this
one.

I won’t say
if she is a good or bad person. It is not for me TO say. But I will say this;
Angelina used her celebrity status to travel the world and do good for people.
She was goodwill ambassador to the UN, she traveled to places that can only be
described as rotten hell holes, to help feed people, champion the rights of
young girls. But most of all, Angelina learned she had advanced breast cancer,
had both breasts removed, and made it public. In doing this, she proved to the
world that you can be a woman, have a double mastectomy, and still be sexy as
hell. It was a much-needed message that many women needed to hear and she did
it. I am quite sure that doing such a thing for a woman is painful,
demoralizing, and of course very private. But she made it as public as she
could in order to show millions of women across the globe that this need NOT be
the end al be all. Is she perfect? probably not. Is she bad? maybe sometimes.
did she wreck Brad Pitt’s marriage? most definitely, but what woman would
NOT!?!?! Does she partake in alcohol too much? well, it has to be tough to have
a double mastectomy and be Brad Pitt’s wife, but she is one thing—— a hero.
Prudence Zitha
I will only
comment on the good part the least that I know. She had no father figure in her
life, she went to therapy with her husband and he wonders up running away with
the therapist. Years later, she broke up Brad Pitts’s marriage when she became
his mistress. Yes, she has acted weird in some of her decisions. I find her to
be independent, cares for the world in general, is a hard worker and seems to
be a relationship kind of girl.
Afzaal Agha
She comes to
meet me and welcomes me with a smile. She shakes my hand and looks at me
sympathetically. She likes to see me again. We have known each other for a long
time. She was 22 when I first interviewed her. She was in her punk phase and
had just shot a TV movie in which she was dying of an overdose. I remember how
her face with her tormented soul and her desperate gaze caught my attention.
Yes, I’ve known Angelina Jolie for a long time, but I still don’t dare to hug
her. Because she is courteous and kind, but she always maintains a certain
distance that she never trespasses.
