What Genetic Malformation Does Meghan Fox Have?

If for only a second, you stop staring at
what we both know you’re staring at, you’ll notice that there’s something
strange about Megan Fox’s thumb in that picture.

Megan was born with a congenital condition
called Brachydactyly type D which
causes her thumbs to be shorter than the average ones.

What Genetic Malformation Does Meghan Fox Have?

She never shied away from talking about them,
as she knows the internet is fascinated by them, and she told Jay Leno in 2012:
“What is weird to me is, I was talking to my mom, and she was like, ‘Oh, I ate
tuna every day when I was pregnant with you’. I was wondering if that was what
happened to my thumbs. They’re weird, and they’re really fat, and there’s like
a weird knuckle.”

Whether this is a “malformation” or just a
“genetic variant” is debatable, but it’s not uncommon; about 1 in 200 Americans
have it. I’ve heard Fox described as a “Butterthumb”, which I thought
was hilarious. Obviously, it hasn’t hurt her career any.

Other than minor cosmetic implication, there
is no real functional deficit here. Thumbs still work okay; they just look a
little funny with a broad nail. Idea that you can’t play guitar with this is
ridiculous.
