doesn’t. Alec Baldwin spent the whole weekend with Matt Hutchins (Halyna’s
husband) and their son Andros. They were seen in Santa Fe, where the accident
happened, walking around, getting breakfast and embracing each other.
Alec announced he has canceled any plans he
had, including acting jobs, to focus on healing and processing this traumatic
event.
Halyna’s father, Anatoly, gave a statement to
The Sun and showed what the family’s state of mind currently is.
He said: “We still can’t believe Halyna is
dead and her mother is going out of her mind with grief. But I don’t hold Alec
Baldwin responsible – it is the responsibility of the props people who handle
the guns. The little boy has been very badly affected — he is lost without his
mother. Matt will decide if legal action is going to be taken.”
Halyna’s sister, Svetlana, also gave a
statement. She said: “How was this negligence allowed by such a team of
professionals? This is just such an absolutely absurd coincidence. I don’t know
where the investigation will lead, but there are so many guesses. Could this
all be a set-up? What was it? It’s so hard to say. God only knows what
happened, it’s just so incredibly hard to live through it. The only thing we
want right now is to be there with my mum next to Halyna’s husband and their
son to make sure he feels our support.”

created a lot of haters. So basically, everyone who is blaming Baldwin is very
likely a Trump supporter.

I mean, he should’ve checked that it was
loaded with blanks. It’s the irony that he goes around lecturing about gun
safety and how no one needs guns and then he doesn’t check to see if a gun is
loaded or not. Never take the word of the person who hands you the gun that
it’s unloaded, check yourself. Hopefully, he shuts the hell up about law-abiding
citizens owning firearms. He’s killed one more person than the vast majority of
them ever have.

Nope, he shouldn’t have. That would be a
HUGE no-onset. The Armorer is the ONLY one to access a firearm. If an actor
has reason to believe a firearm is unsafe, he should go to the armorer for a
weapons check period. The armorer will take the weapon to his secure place for
an inspection, production will halt until the armorer has ensured the weapon
safety, and put it back together. Armorers often will set up their prop
guns so they can’t be closed if an actor decides to open it to do a “brass check”,
so that there is no chance of them opening it, getting a piece of debris in the
weapon, or hurting themselves (some have gas equipment inside which is meant to
give a muzzle flash style of look that can be dangerous and burn someone when
accessed).

The prop knowledge is a specialization. One
cannot assume he/she knows how a prop works and act according to their own
theory – that itself is a danger. For specialized work, you’re either qualified
to know everything exactly or you don’t. In the latter, you’re just a consumer
who must follow the instruction. Hence the existence of the props department takes the accountability and handles the delegation of a specialty. It’s
not reasonable to put all blame on Alec. A prop gun is not a gun. If it is a
gun, then it’s not a prop gun. And the industry should stop calling it a prop.
Because a prop must come with the basic assumption of safety by its users. If a
doctor’s negligence resulted in a missed diagnosing of a terminal disease, the
patient is not to blame.
