This is the first major event that the Queen has been to since the COVID pandemic began and since the death of her husband Prince Philip on 9 April.

Yesterday marked what would have been the Duke of Edinburgh’s 100th birthday, with her Majesty receiving an incredibly touching gift in the form of a newly-bred named after her beloved.

The Queen prompted laughter from Kate and Camilla when she used a ceremonial sword to cut a cake during the engagement.

When her Majesty was informed by an aide that a more conventional knife was available, she responded: “I know there is, this is more unusual.”

The Duchess of Cornwall was heard joking: “That’s slicing through.”
