The London Metropolitan Police has released a public statement ruling out criminal investigations into an interview hosted by Martin Bashir, where he interviewed Princess Diana in 1995.
This probe was as a result of claims from a former employee of Earl Spencer, Princess Diana’s brother. He claimed that his identity was used on false documents, which were then
used to gain access to the Princess for the said interview.
The statement from the Metropolitan police by Commander Alex Murray, said
“In recent months the Metropolitan Police Service received correspondence alleging unlawful activity in connection with a documentary broadcast in 1995. This was carefully assessed by specialist detectives.
“They obtained legal advice from Metropolitan Police lawyers, independent counsel and from the Crown Prosecution Service.

“Following this detailed assessment and in view of the advice we received, we have determined that it is not appropriate to begin a criminal investigation into these allegations. No further action will be taken.
“In this matter, as in any other, should any significant new evidence come to light we will assess it.”
It is estimated that over 23 million people watched that interview in 1995, which came shortly after the breakdown of Diana’s marriage to Prince Charles.
It was in that interview that Princess Diana made the famous comment
“There were three of us in this marriage”
The third person being Camilla Parker Bowles, who is now the Duchess of Cornwall.
