There are several habits that people have that they may or may not know are harmful. 10 Harmful Habits We Thought Were Good But Are Not. More times than we can count, we have probably done something we felt were harmless, but in effect, they were actually harmful to our health. The problem is not getting rid of those habits the issue lies in knowing which of them are wrong. On that note, here are 10 habits that we think are harmless, but in effect, they are quite dangerous.

Frequent touching of face and rubbing of eyes

This may seem like a harmless act, but in truth, this is one of the nastiest habits one can have. Apart from the fact that you transfer germs from your hands to your face, you expose your face to nasty skin diseases like acne, rash and other infections. Rubbing your eyes, on the other hand, causes them to be sore and red, which could lead to eye problems, eye bags and dark circles.

Cotton swabs for nose picking

Some people would prefer not to pick their noses with their hands or fingers, and would rather opt for cotton swabs. For people who have recently undergone some form of surgery like rhinoplasty, it is unsafe and unadvisable to blow their noses as this may cause bleeding or undo the surgery altogether, so in this case, a cotton swab is the best option. However, try not to push the swab too far up or you could damage something.

Shelling seeds with teeth

This seemingly harmless habit is quite dangerous, but a lot of people will choose not to be bothered by it. Their argument would be that as long as they do not swallow the cracked shells, they are safe. Contrary to this belief, shelling the seeds with your teeth causes a specific form to dental damage to your dentition as confirmed by dentists.

Stifling a sneeze

People do this harmlessly, perhaps to avoid embarrassment in public places. But sneezing is a natural way of expelling dirt and particles from your nostrils, so there is no need to be embarrassed about anything. Imagine what happens when a gun is fired and the barrel is covered at the same time, the barrel itself may explode due to the pressure that has been compressed. The same thing happens when you stifle a sneeze, you run the risk of erupting blood vessels, damaging your brain, throat and even your hearing.
