When you are an empathy that picks up every emotion you come across, or you are a highly sensitive person who reacts to everything happening around you, there are certain precautions you need to take to protect your energy and keep yourself in check. Picking up every emotion whether good or bad is not good for you, and will eventually rob you of your own happiness later on. Below are 6 important tips for maintaining and protecting your energy as an empathy and as a highly sensitive person.

1. Protect Yourself With a Shield

When I say shield, I do not necessarily mean an iron or metal shield that you can hold onto. What I mean is a protective shield where no negative energy can penetrate and harm you. You can do this by simply imagining it. By so doing, you picture a shield or cloak protecting you or covering you from negative or bad energies and preventing them from getting in. you can also use protective items like crystals. They deflect negative energies and keep you in the safe zone.

2. Create Boundries

The negative energies get into our lives and affect us when we let our guard down. You cannot set boundaries if you know you will be willing to keep to them. When you set boundaries, let them be clear, both to yourself and to others just so you are not tempted to overstep them. These boundaries can be anything that prevents you from being vulnerable, and they can include little things like what not to do, who not to be with and where not to go. This will really help you protect your energy and sanity.

3. Know Your Strengths and Weaknesses

If you are unable to tell what makes you weak and what makes you strong, then you are placing yourself in very serious danger. You can easily tell your strengths and your weaknesses when you keep track of your interactions with different people. If you feel refreshed, happy and positive after meeting certain people, then you might want to keep them around you as friends. On the contrary, if you feel sad, drained and blue after meeting with some people, then you should stay away from them completely as they are vampires who would suck your energy dry.

4. Learn to Enjoy Your Company

If you do not like being by yourself, then you should start doing do now. It sis the period you spend alone that you get to recharge and replenish lost energies. When you are alone, try to flush your system of all negativities you must have accumulated, and try to restore your own lost or drained energy. You cannot do this if you are constantly in the company of people all the time. Value your own alone time every now and then.

5. Know When To React

It has been established that you always find yourself reacting to people’s feelings or even trapping them. But this does not mean you get to react to feelings or emotions that are not yours. Although it may be hard, but you must always have it at the back of your mind that whatever it is you are feeling or experiencing is not your and thus, is not worth your trouble.

6. Ground Your Energy

Your energy is yours to begin with and also yours to do whatever you please with it. However, you must remember that if that energy is not fully rooted or grounded in you, it will be easy for you to loose it or overshadow it with some other negative energy. Like roots of a strong tree, your energy are your roots. They protect you from questionable energies and also provide a kind of balance and stability so you are not swayed or influenced by pollutants. You can do this by simply taking deep breaths in and out and imagining the energies rooting you into the ground firmly.
