4 Compliments That Are A Totally Turn Off For An Introvert

There are compliments that we love to hear. Those that lift our spirits and make us feel appreciated, loved and special. On the same note, there are also compliments we do not accept or like. Those are the compliments that crush our spirits and make us feel worthless or useless. Introverts, like every other person, love being complimented, even though they may not show it. Before you make a compliment that no one would like to hear, it would be wise to be sure of what you mean and not give unstable impressions. When dealing with an introvert, be careful of the things you say to them.

You may feel they are just random or normal words, but to them, it means a lot more. Here are compliments that turn an introvert off or make them sad.

1. You’re So Quiet

It’s enough to know that they do not relate so well with people at first, but throwing it in their faces and expecting them to be cool about it is not a good thing. First of all, they are quiet because they are more observant than extroverts. Being quiet does not make them weird or rude as some people might think. It’s just how they are. Maybe they are quiet because they are not so comfortable at the moment. With time, they will be more open to you. Instead of calling them out on their quiet attitude, make them feel at home. You might expect them to take it lightly, but in fact, it actually makes them feel sad.

2. There Is Something Different About You

Unless you want to back this up with a nice, proper illustration about whatever it is that is different about them, this is not what you would want to say to an introvert. For one thing, it would make them feel like there is something wrong with them. Maybe you didn’t mean it in a bad way, but an introvert would surely misunderstand or misinterpret this statement, unless you elaborate.

I Don’t Like This Or That About You

If there is one thing an introvert hates, it’s being judged for what they are or what they have done. Everyone is different, and we all process things differently. The introvert may not see through things the way you do, but the certainly have their own methods of doing things. Same thing applied to their behavior. When you are quick to criticize an introvert for their flaws or traits that you do not like, they cannot help but feel attacked or judged. The best way to do this would be to approach them with ease, and make them understand that their behavior may not be favorable to some people.

4. You Take Things Too Seriously

Everyone does. To be honest, there are certain things we cannot simply forget. For an introvert that spends much of their time observing, reading or keeping to themselves for reasons, it is not so easy to let go of some things. When you are just being rude or unpleasant to an introvert for your own reasons, you cannot just apologize and expect it all to just go away. They are more empathic than you know, and with time, they would let go. Just don’t use it as leverage to be unkind.
