As the Cheltenham Festival began yesterday we can’t help but take you through the past years and all the royals who ever attended.
The royal family is known for their love of equestrian sports, even though the famous would be the Royal Ascot which attracts the likes of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, the Queen, The Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall and many others but the family have attended in many times the Cheltenham Festival, which began this week.
In 2003, the Queen and her granddaughter Zara had a day out at the festival with Her Majesty dressed in a bold blue coat and hat and in 2012 Zara attended in the company of the Duchess of Cornwall. And in 2014, Zara and Autumn Philps went on a girls’ day out to Cheltenham.
Princess Anne, who had always attended the festival from a tender age opened the stand named in her honour in 2015, and her daughter, Zara Tindall became a director at the racecourse in January. Zara and her husband, Mike Tindall have become regulars every year at the festival.
In 2013, Princess Anne and Zara enjoyed a mother-daughter day at the Cheltenham festival dressed in block coloured coats and sunglasses.
The Duchess of Cornwall is an Honorary Member of the Jockey Club and will present the trophy to the winning owner, jockey and trainer of the Queen Mother Champion Steeple Chase on Ladies Day on Wednesday 11 March.
Years before their marriage the couple were regulars and even before Kate became the Duchess of Cambridge, she attended the festival in 2007 in a duck egg blue Katherine Hooker blazer with a midi skirt and a chocolate brown beret. That same year, Prince William and Kate rocked matching green tweed ensembles at Cheltenham. Kate’s co-ordinating skirt suit was by Katherine Hooker which she paired with Chanel sunglasses.
The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge were last seen at Cheltenham in 2013 when she was pregnant with their first child, Prince George dressed in a blush pink Josep coat paired with brown accessories and a Kiki McDonough citrine drop earrings.
