Princess Anne to make royal history after ‘taking over Prince Harry’s military role’ – report

Princess Anne takes over the role as captain-general of the Royal Marines from Prince Harry after his resignation from senior members of the Royal family.

The only daughter of Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip will become the first female captain-general of the Royal Marines.

The Captain General Royal Marines is the ceremonial head of the Royal Marines. The uniform and insignia worn by the Captain General are those of a field marshal. This position is distinct from that of the Commandant General Royal Marines, the professional head. This title has existed since 1943. 


Princess Anne who is associated with 65 military organisations carried out 506 engagements in 2019, according to Tim O’Donovan, who compiles an annual tally from the Court Circular for The Times. 

The Royal was once termed as a ‘Royal rebel’ until after the birth of her children when she suddenly became praised by the media for her good works to the communities and charities she worked with. 

The Princess Royal attended the International Rugby Match between Scotland and England at Murrayfield Stadium, Edinburgh on Saturday, in her role as Patron of the Scottish Rugby Union. She was accompanied by her husband Sir Timothy Laurence whom she married in 1992 after a divorce from Mark Philips that same year.
