The Sussexes are in for drastic changes following their exit from royal duties.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex will no longer have their security costs covered by the Canadian government after 31 March- their official date for the agreements to take effect.
The Canadian government who has been providing Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) security to the couple since November in their rented £10million mansion in North Saanich, Vancouver Island has recently confirmed through the Public Safety Canada that the Government of Canada intends to cease contributing to those costs “in the coming weeks”.
Public safety Ministrr, Bill Blair said in a statement released on Thursday:
“The Duke and Duchess of Sussex choosing to relocate to Canada on a part-time basis presented our government with a unique and unprecedented set of circumstances. The RCMP has been engaged with officials in the U.K. from the very beginning regarding security considerations. As the Duke and Duchess are currently recognised as Internationally Protected Persons, Canada has an obligation to provide security assistance on an as-needed basis. At the request of the Metropolitan Police, the RCMP has been providing assistance to the Met since the arrival of the Duke and Duchess to Canada intermittently since November 2019. The assistance will cease in the coming weeks, in keeping with their change in status.”
It’s inevitably obvious that the next couple of weeks, will find the Sussexes on their final royal duties before they officially step back on 31 March with Prince Harry set to attend the Invictus Games Choir Visit on 28 February alongside Jon Bon Jovi, while both Harry and Meghan will be present at the Endeavour Fund Awards on 5 March, which recognises wounded, injured and sick service personnel and veterans who have used sport as part of their recovery.
And on 6 March, Harry will attend the official opening of the Silverstone Experience alongside racing driver Lewis Hamilton, and will join his wife at the Mountbatten Music Festival at the Royal Albert Hall the following day.
