Spanish royals get invites from US President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump for a state visit this spring.
In a statement released by The White House King Felipe and Queen Letizia will be welcomed to the Trumps’ official residence on 21 April 2020 and that the visit will celebrate the two countries’ close friendship and shared history, and reaffirm their commitments to stand together to address today’s global challenges.
It will be a record visit as this will be the first time Mr Trump will host royalty at the White House. However in time past Mr President hosted the president of France, Emmanuel Macron, in 2018 and Australian prime minister Scott Morrison last September.
The Spanish royals first met the US president in June 2018 during a trip to the US where the couples met for tea at the Oval Office.
Felipe, Prince of Asturias became King of Spain in 2014, when his father King Juan Carlos announced his abdication. He married Letizia, a former journalist in May 2004 in Madrid. They have two children, Princess Leonor, born in 2005 and Infanta Sofia born in 2007.
