On March 9, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex will be in the UK, to attend the Commonwealth Service at Westminster Abbey with the rest of the Royal family as requested by the Queen.
The Commonwealth Day, is the annual celebration of the Commonwealth of Nations, often held on the second Monday in March.
It is marked by an Anglican service in Westminster Abbey, normally attended by Queen Elizabeth II as Head of the Commonwealth along with the Commonwealth Secretary-General,Commonwealth High Commissioners in London and members of the Royal family. The Queen delivers an address to the Commonwealth, which is broadcast throughout the world.
Commonwealth Day 2020 activities include: debates, school assemblies, flag raising ceremonies, street parties, cultural events and a multicultural, multi-faith service at Westminster Abbey in London. The theme for the 2020 Commonwealth Day, the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM), and for the work of the Commonwealth more generally is ‘Delivering a Common Future: Connecting, Innovating, Transforming’.
One of the roles Prince Harry served in Commonwealth was Commonwealth Youth Ambassador and Meghan served as Patron for Association of Commonwealth Universities and so will join other senior members of the royal family in attendance, including the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, and Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall.
The duo reportedly declined an invitation to award a prize at the Oscars 2020, which was held in Los Angeles this Sunday. According to sources, Harry and Meghan were “honored by the request but refused the invitation.”
However, the couple attended an exclusive event in Miami, where they were guest speakers at a Florida investment summit sponsored by JP Morgan. Harry spoke to the audience about dealing with the death of his mother and about his and Meghan’s choice to step back from their roles as senior working members of the royal family last month, a decision he reportedly does not regret as he doesn’t want Meghan and their son Archie to go through what he did as a child.
