Amidst the events in the Royal family, the Queen is still in Sandringham where she spent her Christmas holiday- it’s thought she would go back to London and see to the settlement of the differences raised by the announcement made by the Duke and Duches of Sussex to resign from official duties and work on their financial independence while still supporting the Queen.
So far her response had been to assign sides to find a “workable solution” that will allow them to change their roles.
However, the Queen usually remains at her Norfolk estate until 6 February. Here is why that date is significant:
The Queen’s father, King George VI, passed away in Sandringham on 6 February 1952. Elizabeth ascended the throne and her coronation took place on 2 June 1953.
While discussions are taking place behind palace walls, Buckingham Palace released a statement after the Sussexes’ announcement on Wednesday, saying:
“Discussions with The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are at an early stage. We understand their desire to take a different approach, but these are complicated issues that will take time to work through.”
The Queen had been in Sandringham for her Christmas break from the 20 December 2019.
