King Albert II, former king of Belgium admits to having a daughter from an affair.
On Monday, after a decade and more of court cases with his alleged daughter, Delphine Boel, the Royal admits the allegations thrown at him.
The Father and daughter fued began in 2005 when Delphine made it public during an interview and later went to court after her father abdicated.
Her mother, Baroness Sybille de Selys Longchamps, had an affair with the royal between 1966 and 1984, when he was still Prince Albert of Liege. After his older brother’s death in 1993, Albert unexpectedly came to the throne and reigned till July 2013. His son, King Philippe reigned after him.
In a statement released by his lawyer, King Philippe’s father who is now 85 years old, confirmed the DNA test, positive, making Delphine his daughter after many years of denial.
His legal team said he had
“learnt the results of the DNA test… [and] the scientific conclusions indicate that he is the biological father of Mrs Delphine Boël”. The lawyers added the royal had decided to halt the legal battle, which had dragged on since 2013, and he now “accepts Delphine Boël becomes his fourth child”.
King Albert shared three children; King Philippe, Princess Astrid and Prince Laurent with his wife Queen Paola and a fourth, Ms. Boel from an affair.
