A massive blaze has ripped across Swansea with locals saying flames are leaping more than 40ft into the sky.
Billowing clouds of smoke were seen unfurling from the red ring in Mynydd Gelliwastad in the Clydach area on Tuesday night.
More than 120 calls were made to the fire service by worried onlookers.
Three fire crews are attending the scene on a mountain, which borders a number of farms.
But the remote location of the blaze means it is difficult to quell.
Firefighters arrived at around 8pm, the South Wales Fire and Rescue Service confirmed.
A nearby resident, Mark Lane confirmed: ‘The fire is massive, with flames reaching an estimated 40-plus feet in height.
‘It’s spreading rapidly in both directions, making it a challenging situation for the fire brigade to manage, especially given its location at the top of a hill.’
The witness said some firefighters were trying to reach the blaze by crossing the land on foot.
A drone was sent up to assess the spread and scale of the fire, given the difficulty in accessing the site.
