U.S. President Donald Trump has issued a strong warning to Iran, stating that it will be held accountable for any attacks carried out by Yemen’s Houthi rebels. His remarks, posted on his Truth Social platform on Monday, signal a potential escalation in his stance against Tehran.
“Let nobody be fooled! The hundreds of attacks being made by Houthi, the sinister mobsters and thugs based in Yemen, who are hated by the Yemeni people, all emanate from, and are created by IRAN,” Trump wrote, signing the post with his name.
He further warned, “Any further attack or retaliation by the ‘Houthis’ will be met with great force, and there is no guarantee that that force will stop there.”
The Houthis have launched numerous attacks on Israeli vessels and commercial ships in the Red Sea, citing their opposition to Israel’s war in Gaza and its blockade of humanitarian aid. Western military experts believe Iran provides weapons and logistical support to the Houthis, viewing them as part of an Iranian-backed “axis of resistance.”
While Trump has previously urged Iran to end its support for the Houthis, his latest comments suggest potential military action against Iran itself.
“Every shot fired by the Houthis will be looked upon, from this point forward, as being a shot fired from the weapons and leadership of IRAN, and IRAN will be held responsible, and suffer the consequences, and those consequences will be dire!” he declared.
Trump has long pressured Iran to abandon its nuclear ambitions. However, in 2018, he withdrew the U.S. from the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), which had placed limits on Iran’s nuclear program in exchange for sanctions relief.
Earlier this month, Trump sent a letter to Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, warning of possible U.S. military action if a new nuclear agreement was not reached. However, Khamenei dismissed Trump’s efforts, calling him a “bully” and pointing to his previous withdrawal from the JCPOA.
Iran has repeatedly stated that its nuclear program is for civilian purposes and denies seeking nuclear weapons.
Between Saturday and Sunday, U.S. forces launched approximately 47 airstrikes across seven Yemeni provinces, killing an estimated 53 people. The strikes targeted areas controlled by the Houthis, including the capital, Sanaa.
In announcing the airstrikes, Trump reiterated his warning to Iran.
“To Iran: Support for the Houthi terrorists must end IMMEDIATELY! Do NOT threaten the American People, their President, who has received one of the largest mandates in Presidential History, or worldwide shipping lanes,” he wrote. “If you do, BEWARE, because America will hold you fully accountable—and we won’t be nice about it!”
