A two-year-old child is hospitalized after being accidentally shot by their twin sibling, authorities said.
Henry County Police responded to a home in Hampton, Georgia, around noon on Wednesday, March 12, following reports of a gunshot, according to Fox5.
The injured toddler, whose name and gender have not been disclosed, was airlifted from the residence on Robin Hood Lane, just south of Atlanta. First responders from Henry County Fire Rescue provided initial treatment before transporting the child to the hospital. Officials have confirmed the child is now in stable condition.
Police have cordoned off the home as the investigation continues. A local resident told Fox5 that officers were restricting access to part of the street.
According to detectives, the child’s twin sibling “gained possession of the firearm” and unintentionally discharged it. It remains unclear who owned the weapon or what type of gun was involved. No charges have been filed at this time.

This incident comes just three months after a similar tragedy in California, where a two-year-old accidentally shot and killed his mother.
On December 6, 2024, 22-year-old Jessinya Mina was fatally shot in her northeast Fresno apartment after her toddler found an unsecured, loaded gun in the bedroom. Fresno Police later determined that Mina’s boyfriend, 18-year-old Andrew Sanchez, had negligently left a 9mm handgun accessible in their home.
