A man was set on fire in a shocking attack in Times Square early Sunday, March 16, leaving him with severe burns across his face.
Video footage captured the aftermath of the attack on the 45-year-old victim, showing him in visible pain as emergency responders placed him into an ambulance after extinguishing the flames.
Dozens of first responders were seen surrounding the scene, while the victim, shirtless and wrapped in a blue blanket, stood on the sidewalk. The footage also showed officers speaking to an apparent companion of the victim, who was dressed in a short dress and high heels.
The NYPD responded to reports of a man on fire at W. 41st Street and Seventh Avenue just before 4 a.m. Sunday. Authorities believe the man was deliberately set ablaze but have not yet identified a suspect.
It remains unclear whether the attack was targeted or random. The victim was transported to NewYork-Presbyterian Cornell, where he is in stable condition.
No arrests have been made, and the investigation is ongoing.
