Charles Spencer’s new girlfriend, Cat Jarman, is taking legal action against his ex-wife, Countess Karen Spencer, over the alleged misuse of private information.
According to The Telegraph, new court documents reveal that Cat and her children suffered “significant distress” due to speculation surrounding the case, which ultimately led her to publicly disclose her multiple sclerosis (MS) diagnosis.
In December, Cat opened up about her condition in an interview with MailOnline, explaining that she felt compelled to share the news to put an end to “harmful speculation and gossip” circulating online.
The court claim also suggests that Cat was particularly concerned about Karen Spencer’s legal defense, which was about to become public and contained details about her health.
The legal filing states: “In these circumstances, the claimant wished to regain some of the autonomy and control over her medical information.”
Karen’s 11-page defense accuses Charles and Cat of having an affair and states that Cat’s MS diagnosis was disclosed by her own husband, who believed it was relevant to her actions. Karen claimed that her former husband, the Earl of Spencer, ended their marriage via text—an allegation Charles has dismissed as an “absurd attempt to blacken my name.”
Since their split in May last year, Karen and her daughter, Lady Charlotte, have moved out of Althorp House. Last month, Karen gave a glimpse of her “temporary” new home, sharing a scenic photo of its sprawling grounds. She later revealed that her beloved horses, including one named Jack, had also settled into the new property.
