Chukwuka Nweke, a Nigerian man, has been sentenced to life imprisonment for the r*pe and murder of 61-year-old Iris Setti in Rovereto, Italy.
The horrific attack took place on the evening of August 5, 2023, in a public park in the northeastern city of Rovereto, Trento.
According to ANSA Italy, Nweke was found guilty of aggravated murder, robbery, and sexual violence in a verdict delivered last week.
Witnesses reported that Nweke, known for his substance abuse issues, brutally assaulted Setti by throwing her to the ground and striking her face and head with both his fists and a blunt object.
After the attack, Nweke fled the scene but was apprehended shortly afterward by Carabinieri officers on Via Maioliche. They had to deploy tasers to subdue him during the arrest.
Despite being rushed to a local hospital, Setti succumbed to her injuries several hours later.
