A fire has tragically claimed the lives of a woman and her two children in Ondo West Local Government Area, Ondo State.

The fatal fire occurred on the night of Sunday, February 16, 2025, at Rainbow Street, near Onipakala Junction, while residents were asleep.

Reports indicate that the woman, a petty trader, and her children, identified only as Bukola and Ifeoluwa, were burned beyond recognition in the blaze.

A neighbor, speaking anonymously, said the fire was noticed around midnight while the victims were fast asleep.

“Unfortunately, we were unable to rescue them. The fire lasted for hours, completely destroying the house they were trapped in,” the source told Daily Trust.

Mr. Adegbulu, the chairman of the landlord association on the street, said local firefighters failed to respond, citing a lack of water and chemicals.

“When we called the fire service, we were told they had no water or chemicals. The officer even turned off his phone immediately afterward,” he said.

Funmilayo Odunlami-Omisanya, the state’s police spokesperson, confirmed the incident and stated that the bodies of the victims were taken to the morgue at the State General Hospital in Ondo.
