Enoch Ndou broke down in tears after being found guilty by the High Court in Thohoyandou, Limpopo, South Africa, on Friday of murdering seven family members, including a pregnant woman and her unborn child, on Christmas Day 2021.

The victims—Mpho Donald Ndou, Ndivhuwo Douglas Ndou, Portia Mabasa, Rendani Winnus Ndou, Wanga Ndou, Ronewa Ndou, and Dakalo Makondo Ndou—were killed in a violent attack at Jimmy Jones village near Malamulele, leaving the community in shock.

The killings were reportedly motivated by a family dispute over the inheritance of a property.

Following the incident, the 52-year-old nurse turned himself in at Thohoyandou Police Station and was charged with seven counts of murder.

During the trial, Judge Tshidada ruled that Ndou had not provided sufficient evidence of any psychological incapacity to stand trial or to explain his actions on the day of the murders.

“The accused failed to prove he suffered psychological incapacity on the day or the time he committed the offences,” Judge Tshidada said. “The state presented uncontested evidence that proves the accused guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. I am compelled to pronounce a guilty verdict.”

Overcome with emotion, Ndou broke down in tears as the guilty verdict was delivered.
