A pregnant teenager from California tragically lost her life in a hit-and-run incident after confronting a man regarding his relationship with her underage sister.
Kaylie Corona, 16, was just two weeks away from giving birth when she was fatally struck late at night on February 2 in Riverside. According to reports from KTLA, 19-year-old Isaac Blackhorse Garcia allegedly ran down the expectant mother following an argument over his sexual relationship with her 15-year-old sister.
“Investigators determined that the suspect, Isaac Blackhorse Garcia of Moreno Valley, was involved in a sexual relationship with the victim’s teenage sister,” stated Riverside Police.
“After dropping the sister off at home, family members approached Garcia’s vehicle. He then accelerated away, hitting the victim with his car.”
Heartbreaking doorbell footage captured the moment Corona’s family rushed to her aid, pleading with neighbors to call 911. The video also showed Garcia’s black Mercedes-Benz speeding away from the scene.
Corona was transported to a hospital but sadly succumbed to her injuries. However, doctors were able to save her baby, whom the family has named Elena.
“The baby is in critical condition at a local children’s hospital,” said Riverside Police Department Public Information Officer Ryan Railsback in an interview.
Residents in the neighborhood expressed their shock and sorrow over the incident.
“There was a car that just sped past,” recalled Miriam Betamen, a local resident. “We saw a girl lying in the street. I was praying she would be OK, and when I learned she had passed away, it was devastating.”
Garcia has been arrested and booked into the Robert Presley Detention Center on charges of murder, hit-and-run resulting in death, and unlawful sexual conduct with a minor. He is currently being held without bail. Authorities suspect there may be additional underage victims in connection with Garcia and are urging anyone with information about the case to come forward.
In the wake of this tragedy, Corona’s family has established a GoFundMe campaign to help cover her funeral expenses and Baby Elena’s medical care.
“We are deeply heartbroken to share the devastating loss of our precious baby girl,” the fundraiser states. “At just 16 years old, she had a bright future filled with promise and excitement. She was looking forward to becoming a mother and meeting her baby.”
“Our girl was more than just a teenager—she was a radiant light in our lives, a loving and joyful soul whose presence touched everyone she met. She had so many dreams and moments ahead of her, all of which were tragically taken away.
“In addition to losing our sweet girl, we are now facing the urgent medical needs of her baby, who is fighting for her life.”
