A middle-aged woman, whose identity remains unknown, is believed to have drowned after jumping into a deep river located on Akin Akeju Street, near the Ekiti State Teaching Hospital (EKSUTH) in Ado Ekiti, on Sunday, February 2.

According to eyewitnesses, the woman had been sent on an errand from a traditional healing center where she was receiving treatment for mental illness when she took the fatal plunge.

It was reported that she had previously attempted to jump into the river earlier in the day but was stopped by passersby. However, despite efforts to prevent her, she later returned to the river and successfully jumped in.

“Despite multiple attempts to stop her, she returned to the river and tragically jumped in,” a local resident said.

Her body was recovered from the river and has been taken to the morgue. The state police have yet to release an official statement on the incident.
