Prince William has revealed that he and Princess Kate have begun having meaningful discussions about the Holocaust with their eldest son, Prince George.

Speaking during Holocaust Memorial Day commemorations on Monday, Prince William mentioned that George is reaching an age where he can begin to grasp such significant historical events.

He explained: “George is getting to the age where he’s starting to understand things. So, it’s getting interesting to talk to him about what happened.”

During the event, the royal couple met with Holocaust survivors, including Alfred Garwood, who survived Bergen-Belsen as a child, and Bosnian genocide survivor Sabina Kadic-Mackenzie, now living in Liverpool. They also expressed their intention to teach all three of their children about the Holocaust and its lessons.

Emotional Reunions and Reflections
Earlier in the day, William and Kate joined around 50 Holocaust survivors at the Guildhall. The Princess of Wales had a touching reunion with Yvonne Bernstein and Steven Frank, whom she had photographed in 2020.

Kate and Yvonne embraced warmly, with Yvonne stroking Kate’s arm and thanking her for attending. Kate responded: “It was such a treat for me to come and see an old friend.”

During the hour-long ceremony, Prince William gave a moving reading, honoring the millions who perished during the Holocaust and subsequent genocides. He stated: “We also remember those survivors who have lived with scars, both mental and physical. Their bravery, in sharing with us the most harrowing moments of their lives, is extremely powerful and ensures that we never forget. I assure them we never will.”

William also read an excerpt from Holocaust Heroes, highlighting the story of his great-grandmother, Princess Alice of Battenberg, who protected a Jewish family from the Nazis in Athens.

The Prince concluded the event, saying: “It has been a great honour for Catherine and I to join you all today.”

Poignant Fashion Choices
For the occasion, Prince William looked polished in a navy suit and white shirt. Princess Kate exuded elegance in wide-leg black trousers, a black top, and a tailored blazer. She wore her hair in soft curls and opted for warm-toned makeup.

Kate accessorized with symbolic jewellery, including a layered vintage pearl necklace and the Bahrain pearl drop earrings gifted by the late Queen Elizabeth II. Pearls, often associated with mourning, added a poignant touch to her ensemble. She completed her look with a quilted Chanel bag and black pointed pumps, perfectly suited for the solemn event.
