Omowunmi, the widow of late singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad, has alleged that her father-in-law, Joseph Aloba, is causing delays in the DNA test required to settle the paternity of her son, Liam.

Through her legal representatives, Salawu Akingbolu Chambers, Omowunmi claimed that Mr. Aloba rejected the medical facilities she suggested for the test.

In a letter dated January 9, 2025, her lawyers noted that while she opposed using the University College Hospital (UCH) Ibadan, Mr. Aloba similarly rejected her proposal of Lagoon Hospitals. As a compromise, Omowunmi suggested Eko Hospital and Reddington Hospital as alternatives, but she stated that Mr. Aloba had yet to respond.

The dispute originated after a Magistrates Court in Ikorodu, Lagos State, instructed both parties to pursue alternative dispute resolution and conduct the DNA test at a mutually agreed facility under supervision.

Expressing frustration over the impasse, Omowunmi warned she might proceed with the test independently if no resolution is reached.

“To our utter surprise, instead of responding to our letter, we observed Mr. Taiwo Odumosu, counsel to the applicant, making claims on social media that we are unwilling to proceed with the DNA test. This is entirely untrue, and we demand an apology for such misrepresentation,” the letter stated.

Omowunmi also accused her late husband’s father of tarnishing her son’s reputation by suggesting on social media that the child is illegitimate.

In response, Aloba’s former legal representatives, Hillceetee Partners, issued a letter on January 11, 2025, signed by Emmanuel Oroko. They denied any social media misrepresentation, clarifying that Mr. Odumosu’s comments were misinterpreted.

“Mr. Odumosu did not state that your client was unwilling to proceed with the DNA test. He merely noted that the hospitals had not yet confirmed their readiness to conduct the procedure,” the response read.

The letter also emphasized respect for the professionalism shown by both legal teams throughout the case.

Subsequently, Hillceetee Partners announced their withdrawal from representing Mr. Aloba in the matter.
