Authorities in Pakistan have apprehended two teenage sisters for allegedly murdering their father by setting him ablaze in retaliation for years of s*xual abuse.
The incident occurred in Gujranwala on January 1, and the father later died from his injuries in the hospital on Tuesday.
Rizwan Tariq, a senior police official, stated that the sisters had made a joint decision to find a “permanent solution” to their plight.
Tariq explained that the girls used petrol taken from a motorcycle to ignite their father while he was asleep.
The sisters reported that their father had been s*xually abusing their eldest sibling for a year and had attempted to assault the younger sister on two occasions.
Both mothers, who are married to the man, were reportedly aware of the abuse but were unaware of their daughters’ plan for revenge.
The man’s identity has not been disclosed to protect the sisters, who come from different maternal backgrounds.
One mother has been arrested, while the other remains under investigation.
“We anticipate presenting them in court within a few days after completing our investigation,” Tariq added.
According to the UN, domestic violence and family-related s*xual abuse are significant issues in Pakistan, prompting initiatives to educate families, particularly boys, about preventing violence against women.
