A former Police officer is accused of engaging in a sexual relationship with a woman he met through the course of his duties…he appeared in court Wednesday morning.

The 38-year-old man is alleged to have pursued personal contact with the woman between May and June 2022 after meeting her while leading a police investigation.

Ex-PC Daniel Jackson was charged with misconduct in public office following an investigation by the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC).

The watchdog said the woman was in a ‘vulnerable situation’ at the time of the alleged relationship.

Jackson appeared before a district judge at Leicester Magistrates’ Court this morning when the case was committed to the crown court for a hearing next month.

During the five-minute hearing, District Judge Nick Watson was told Jackson allegedly conducted himself ‘in a manner which amounted to abuse of the public’s trust’.

The IOPC investigation into Jackson began in June 2022 following a mandatory conduct referral from Leicestershire Police.

He resigned from the force in September that year.

The police watchdog subsequently referred a file of evidence to the Crown Prosecution Service, which decided to charge ex-PC Jackson with the offence.

District Judge Watson released Jackson, of Derby, on unconditional bail ahead of his next court appearance on February 24.

After being told he was free to go, Jackson, wearing a blue suit and tie, replied: ‘Thank you judge’.
