An Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, December 31, ordered the remand of a 52-year-old man, Ademilua Oni, at the Ado-Ekiti correctional facility over the alleged murder of his 92-year-old mother, Comfort Oni.
The defendant, whose address was not disclosed, faces charges of murder.
According to the Prosecutor, Inspector Elijah Adejare, the incident occurred on December 15 in Iropora-Ekiti, located in the Irepodun/Ifelodun Local Government Area of Ekiti State.
Inspector Adejare alleged that the defendant’s mother confronted him after he attempted to steal. During the altercation, the defendant reportedly pushed her, causing her to fall and sustain fatal injuries.
The prosecutor stated that the offence contravenes Section 234 of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State, 2021. He requested the court to remand the defendant in custody while awaiting legal advice from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
The court did not take the defendant’s plea. Chief Magistrate Kehinde Awosika ordered his remand in the correctional centre and adjourned the case to January 30, 2025, for further mention.
